Not-So-Wordless Wednesday

English, Por Favor???

Mya loves Dora the Explorer and has learned quite a few Spanish words from watching the show, including how to count from 1-10. The problem is that now, whenever I ask her to count for me she always counts in Spanish. This is just a cute video of me trying to get Mya to count in English....

I'm Living In An Igloo

Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but right now it is freezing in my house.

It all started this afternoon when it seemed to get gradually colder. At first I thought maybe the temperature outside had dropped and that there was a draft coming in around the door. Nope, the door seemed fine when I checked it.

My second thought was that perhaps one of the kids had played with the thermostat. It was by then about 5 degrees colder than what it is usually set at. So, I readjusted the thermostat..but the heat didn't come on.

Finally I went downstairs to check the furnace and wouldn't you know it, the furnace is broken! Right now (or at least when I last checked) it is about 50 degrees inside my house. I have someone coming out to fix the furnace but they won't be there until late tomorrow morning.

For tonight Mya and I are staying over at Grandma's house. I sure hope they are able to fix it. If not we may just have to move into one of those nice vacation rentals until Spring.

Lost Books and Frozen Noses

Today was a long day. As I said in my last post, I had a doctor appointment thing morning. Then I had to go grocery shopping before picking up my nieces from school.

When I got to the middle school, I found my niece all upset because she had lost one of her textbooks. We spent what seemed like forever looking for it. We looked in her locker, in her classrooms, the hallways and the lost and found. Unfortunately we still couldn't find it and by then she was near hysterics because she thinks she (or in other words, her parents) will have to pay for a new one. I am HOPING it will be found over the weekend because it is $60 to replace it.

When I got home tonight I ran out to bring the trash can back in from the curb. It was so cold that by the time I got halfway back up the driveway my nostrils were stuck together and it felt like my lungs were about to explode. Ugh! I am so ready for Spring to get here!

Diet Pills

For the past half hour or so I have been looking up some information for a friend of mine about diet pills. Specifically I am looking up Lipozene and Lipovox. I have heard about Lipozene before. When I was working for West (a WAH job where you take calls from people buying things from informercials, etc..) Lipozene was one of the things people were calling in to buy. I can't seem to find much info on Lipovox though. Guess I need to keep looking...

Late to Bed, Early To Rise

I could not sleep last night and ended up staying awake until after 3am. Now it is 6am and I am already up. I actually have a doctor appointment this morning and I wanted to get up early to see what the weather was going to be like. They had snow in the forecast, but nothing so far.

So here I sit at the computer, trying to find something interesting to watch on TV ( I swear, they show this same Mesothelioma commercial every 2 minutes) to pass the time until I have to wake Mya up.

41.5 Hours of Labor

When I gave birth to Mya, I guess you could say I had it easy. Even though I was having some medical complications at the time, the actual "labor" was a breeze. I had a C-section that was scheduled in advance, took less than 1/2 an hour, and involved no contractions or pushing on my part whatsoever.

This past weekend my cousin and his girlfriend welcomed their beautiful son Michael into the world. She was due on December 29th but for some reason the doctor was still holding off on inducing. They told her that they MIGHT be able to get her in on Jan 12 (she would have been 2 weeks overdue) IF they had an opening available. HUH??? Why wouldn't they just schedule it so they they would have one available? That seemed a little odd to me, but anyways...

At 6am on Friday morning (Jan 9) I got a call saying that she was finally in labor and they were on their way to the hospital. Her contractions were strong and fairly regular. Now, my cousin has one of those huge trucks where short people like me practically need a ladder to get up into so I can only imagine his poor girlfriend (who is shorter than I am) trying to haul her 9 and 1/2 month pregnant, in labor butt up into his car and then riding at turbo speed over the slippery, snow covered, pothole ridden Michigan roads to get to the hospital. Poor girl!

After being admitted and checked they called to report that yes, she was definately in labor and the contractions were still strong. Shouldn't be too long now, right?

WRONG!!

She ended up in labor for 41.5 HOURS...giving birth to baby Michael just after 11:30 pm on Saturday, Jan 10th!

My Name Should Have Been "Klutz"

A few days ago I mentioned how I almost broke my neck when I slipped on the ice and almost slid under my car. I really don't know what is wrong with me lately but I seem to be tripping or spilling or breaking something at least once a day. Tonight it was my computer chair. As I tried to casually sit down at my desk I suddenly lost all normal coordination and lost my balance and did more of an awkward flop down into the chair. At that point the large black industrial knobs holding my chair together gave way and I ended up on the floor. Of course Mya thought it was hilarious!

Now I know I MAY have eaten a few too many Christmas cookies over the holiday's and all...but breaking a chair? I didn't think I had gained THAT much!

Rotten M&M's

Today I am back at work after what seemed like a really long weekend. Once again the weather was terrible so we really didn't go anywhere. And on Sunday I spend a few hours trying to get M&M's out of the tape drives of the VCR. I have no idea how long they had been in there, but you could no longer tell what color they had been. Yuck! Obviously we don't use the VCR much but Mya has some older Veggie Tales videos that she still likes to watch. Apparently when I gave Mya the M&M's she thought she would save a few for later?????

A Day At The Museum

Over the holidays we took the kids to the local children's museum. They had so much fun. We were there for several hours and even when we finally said it was time to leave, the kids all begged to stay longer. I have to admit, if I lived closer to the museum I would probably take them there at least once a week. There aren't too many places to go where you can keep a group of kids happily entertained for the whole afternoon for only $5 each.

Here are some pictures of our day at the museum:

School Delay

Today the older kids had a 2 hour school delay. It snowed all night last night and the snow has piled up once again. Oh joy!

They usually get on the bus at their house but because of the delay they were over here and wouldn't be able to ride the bus. So I decided to drive the kids to school this morning rather than having them walk because it was so cold. When I got to the school I got out of the car to get their bags out of the trunk, slipped on the ice and almost slid right under the car! Of course there were several other kids and their parents that saw me land right on my butt. So Embarrassing!

My Child Free Day

It is 1am and I am still awake. I have spent the past hour or so looking up Luminox watches on Ebay and returning Entrecard Drops.

The reason I am up so late tonight is because today, for the first time in ages, I got to sleep in as late as I wanted (which happened to be noon, btw). My awesome mom decided to give me a "mommy break" by coming over early and getting up with Mya and then taking her to my sisters to play with her cousins for the day.

So, did I do anything or go anywhere fun and exciting on my day off? Nope! I just sat around all day in my sweats watching movies. It was nice to just relax and be lazy!

Christmas Revisited

*** For this post, I need to backtrack a bit to Christmas Day***

Despite my complaints about the weather, we really had a great Christmas! MY Christmas morning started at midnight. Because my sisters, my mom and I all live within a few miles of each other, my mom likes to go to each house on Christmas morning to watch her grandkids open their gifts. This year she decided to come here last because Mya typically sleeps later than her cousins. That was fine with me, but I wanted to make sure that, in case she decided to wake up early, she would have at least one present waiting for her. So I came up with the stupid brilliant idea to set up her new play kitchen instead of wrapping it so that she could come downstairs, get all excited over her new toy and play with that until Grandma got here.

Now, in theory, this really was a good idea. The problem came when, just before midnight, I sat down and actually opened the box. OMG! Could there have been any more little pieces to this thing? It took me almost 4 HOURS to put the damn thing said kitchen together. But the look on Mya's face when she saw it made it all worth it. She loved it!!

Here's Mya w/her new kitchen (gotta love the helmet hair!)

When Grandma finally got here, Mya opened the rest of her presents. I remember last year (she was only 14 months at the time) she didn't quite understand the concept of getting multiple gifts. She would open one thing, get all happy and excited and run away to play. This year I think she got the hang of it:

Here are a few more Christmas morning pictures:

Later that afternoon, we went over to my sister's house for Christmas dinner and more gift opening. Everyone was there...both of my sisters and their families, my mom, my grandmother, my dad and stepmom, and even my cousin and his girlfriend, who informed us all that we should be expecting wedding invitations in the mail sometime soon because they had just gotten engaged earlier that morning (Awww!).

This year we decided to do an easy, kid-friendly Christmas dinner because we knew that they would be all excited to open the rest of their gifts and they couldn't care less if we had a big fancy dinner. And the truth is, it was a lot less stressful for the adults too. We ended up having grilled hot dogs, chips and brownies w/ice cream.

After all the days excitement Mya and Mommy were both exhausted by the time we got home.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Over the holidays I was on vacation from my day job so I decided to take a mini blogging vacation as well. I used the time to sleep in (on the rare days that Mya would let me) and spend as much time as I could with family and friends. Now I am back with a plethora of pictures and stories to share.
